Under Armor is a leading American sportswear manufacturer. Under Armor was founded in 1996 by former University of Maryland football player Kevin Plank. He was inspired to make clothing with moisture-wicking synthetic fabric after being tired of having to change out of the sweat-soaked T-shirts.
In 1999, Under Armor became the first company to create a compression functional thermal fabric made of polyamide and polyester. This technology became the basis for Under Armor clothing. In the same year, Under Armor introduced its first collection of clothing designed to dry quickly. The company works on new innovations and clothing technologies. For example some of the well know are waterproof HeatGear fabric, moisture-resistant ColdGear and functional running clothing.
