GORE-TEX is an extremely thin layer of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). Thanks to the GORE-TEX membrane clothing is waterproof, windproof and breathable.
How the GORE-TEX membrane ensures water resistance and vapor permeability:
- Each square inch of membrane contains 9 billion pores - Each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water - Each pore is 700 times larger than a molecule of water vapor
